Originally from Cwm-y-Glo, I feel very fortunate to have been brought up in a small village in the shadow of Snowdon and Dinorwig quarry. The surrounding landscape had taken a hold of me from a very young age.
I am interested in the colours and shapes of the land, as well as the rich history and culture of north Wales that surrounds us in our quarries and mountains.
Walking is a big part of the process of creating my art. This is when I am inspired by the land, especially the areas of Llanberis, and the Vivian and Dinorwig Quarries; the feeling, and history of what took place here before.
I am simply responding to the land and the area where I was born and raised, trying to capture a moment in time through a creative process.
Dinorwig Quarry, and especially Vivian, have had such an influence on me that we decided to call our daughter Gwen Vivian.
I’ve been very fortunate to have worked with very creative people due to the influence of Dinorwig Quarry, including a commission for the Jin Llechan Las label for a local company, Dinorwig Distillery, and also had the opportunity to show the Quarry to a wider audience on the S4C programme 'Am Dro'.
We live in a truly inspiring place!
