I started back in 2000 working at Llechwedd at the mill, splitting and hewing, before moving out onto the rock face, which is more interesting work. Then I moved on to work at Cwt y Bugail, where I worked on the rock. After completing a course and a few exams I got my Explosive Licence. Firing black-power is much more interesting, and exciting, as it has a lot more skill to it. We fire with black-powder around 2 to 3 times a day. Every now and then, we fire a large explosion, which uses around 10 tons of explosives.
